Calling all Pagans on the rock!

Announcing a BC Day long weekend Pagan camp-out!

When? – July 30th to August 2nd
Where? – Nanaimo Lakes
Who? Pagans and Pagan Friendly Folk
Why? Do we really need a reason to gather at a quiet lake side campsite under the warm summer stars to laugh, chant, drum, eat, celebrate and all the fine things we Pagans love to do?!

.
.
.

You are invited to join us for a weekend at the lake!

**PLEASE RSVP SOON**

Please check the Facebook event page for updates:

The Nanaimo Lakes campgrounds are located on privately owned forestry lands behind Mt. Benson and are a 45 minute drive inland from Nanaimo.

The campgrounds are private, well maintained and just enough off the beaten path.

Our hope is to reserve the tenting section that is surrounded by trees with a field in the middle, is private, and has its own beach access to the lake. (This will be confirmed on Thursday night, the 15′th)

If this site is not available many of the regular sites are also very large and relatively private and are located in such a way that two sites can be utilized as a single site with lots of room for many tents and common space.

A schedule of workshops and events to keep our days busy will be posted in the days leading up to the event.

Spontaneous rituals are sure to break out and great conversation around the camp fire always happens.

And don’t forget to bring your drums, instruments and voices along!

A temple to Aphrodite and Pan will be set up where the Goddess and God can be appropriately worshipped. ;-)

This is a bring your own food and supplies event. Many folks will likely have cooking appliances so no need for everyone to bring a camp stove. A pot luck meal is being suggested for Saturday and Sunday nights. (please check on the facebook page for discussion)

It is advised that each person bring enough water for cooking and drinking.

The campground cost is $17.50 “per family” per night. How you define your family is up to you, but each group is responsible to pay the campground care taker upon arriving at the site.

The gates to the private forest land are locked from 8PM to 8AM and can only be opened after hours for emergencies.

Opening circle is will be at 8:30 on Friday night.

There is NO CELLULAR COVERAGE at the lakes! In the event of an emergency the caretaker has a VHF radio that can be used to call for an ambulance, etc. Otherwise there is no communication without a drive most of the way in to town.

A map with detailed directions will be posted soon.

More details and information as it develops!

UPDATE

More details – July 16

We took a drive up to the lake last night to confirm our reservations with the site caretaker and unfortunately the site we had hoped for was already booked.

But, we did secure a block of 3 regular sites ( 21, 22 & 23) that should work out just fine for us. They are at the back corner of the campground and as far away from the other sites as possible. They are surrounded by trees and bush and the lake is not even a 5 minute walk away.

Site map is here: http://nlcampsite.com/nlcampsite-map.pdf

Sites 21 & 23 are side by side and fairly good size. We should be able to fit all the tents in site 21 and have a big common space with the extra tables, cooking space, fire pit, etc in 23. Site 22 is smaller than the others and is a good location for the temple tent. It can also be used as overflow for regular tents if we run out of space.

We will be bringing up some large collapsing tables as well as shelter tents to use in the common area, but please remember to bring your own lawn chair.

All 3 sites are in the back corner of the campground and have good separation from the other sites.

The campground rate is $17.50 per “family” per night. So, a car load of people together would be considered a “family” and split the fee. (this is where car pooling is a good thing).

The fees are collected at the main gate as you enter the forestry land, so have your funds sorted out before you get in the car and head up the road.

On the topic of cars, after you unload your gear at the site please park your car around the corner on the “F Branch” road.

Again, there is no cell phone coverage at the lakes but emergency communication can be made VHF radio by the campground hosts.

We will be sending out detailed maps with directions next week.

Sunday August 1′st is Lughnasadh and we will celebrate with a ritual put on by Heatherly and the Ladysmith group followed by a pot luck harvest feast!
More details to come as they pop in to my head!
